Home Network

I have been wanting to get my hands on some Unifi gear to use for the home network. It all started with a AP (UAP-AC Lite) and I built my Unifi controller on the Raspberry Pi 3b+. Since then I got a great deal and added the following devices to my network:

  • USG-PRO

Ubiquiti Unfi Enterprise Gateway Router (USG-PRO-4) - Kogan.com

  • UAP-AC Pro

Ubiquiti Networks UAP-AC-PRO-5 UniFi Access Point

  • US-8-150

UBNT US8-150 8-Port 150W 8xPoE GB Switch - NAXLAV.COM

  • UniFi-Cloudkey

Ubiquiti UniFi Cloud Key - UC-CK

Took some getting used to since I mostly deal with Cisco at work and wanted to have a management network to access all the devices separate from the local network. One of the cool features of the USG-Pro that I didn't even realize was the built-in Radius Server and the ability to use Radius accounts to automatically assign Vlan based off account. This has been something I have been researching how to install Free-Radius on the Raspberry Pi and now I don't have to.

One other thing I was able to get up and running (finally) was the cloudkey since my RPi 3b+ died and I didn't want to have to use one of my RPi 4 since I have those set aside for my cluster environment (more on that one in another update).
